Fernie Alpine Resort

Come and Experience the Legendary Snow

If one word can capture the magic that is Fernie, that word is snow! Known to receive one of the highest average snowfalls in British Columbia, Fernie is the ultimate ski destination for powder-lovers. The resort features five famous alpine bowls (Currie, Timber, Siberia, Lizard, and Cedar), which offer an unparalleled range of terrain and are excellent for taking full advantage of powder days.

Located in the Kootenays Range of the Canadian Rockies, Fernie is a classic, British Columbia mountain ski town, filled with local stories and legends. Founded as a coal-mining town in 1897, the original resort started operation in 1962 as 'Fernie Snow Valley', before purchased by the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) and re-named in 1997.

Today, Fernie Alpine Resort continues to be a hidden gem of the Powder Highway — a resort where you can still find smaller lift lines and plentiful trackless terrain. The resort receives up to 37 feet of natural snowfall per season, in addition to excellent snowmaking and grooming equipment. It offers visitors over 2,500 acres of terrain spread over 5 spectacular bowls, ridges, and glades.

Activities

Congratulations on selecting Fernie as your Skican vacation destination! Although Fernie is best known for its terrific skiing/riding, the area offers plenty of additional activities for you to enjoy during your stay.

Cross-Country Skiing

The Cross Country Ski trail system at Fernie Alpine Resort has great terrain, with hilly and forested trails offering a fantastic workout and excellent wilderness adventure. It's groomed twice a week and generally has excellent skiing for both skaters and classical cross-country.

Snowshoeing

The extensive network of mountain biking trails, which can be found throughout Fernie, make for exceptional snowshoeing in the winter months. Trail maps are available at most local retailers.

Fat Biking

If you can mountain bike you can fatbike! Explore groomed multi-use trails through the trees and up to viewpoints. Learn-to-fatbike and guided tours are offered at Fernie Alpine Resort and on community trails with Ridetheory.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling in the Canadian Rockies is the wilderness experience of a lifetime. Encounter big mountain terrain, unlike anything you have ever seen, and experience the excitement of riding deep in powder. Snowmobiling in Fernie will take you to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Rocky Mountains.

Fernie Ghostrider Hockey Team

Catch a home game with the Fernie Ghostrider – Fernie’s own Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) team. Join the locals in cheering on their home team while enjoying great hockey action, beverage gardens, concessions, and special events. Enjoy a pre-game dinner & ticket combo at the Park Place Lodge Pub & Grille, or a pre-game pint & ticket combo at the Kodiak Lounge. Tickets can otherwise be purchased directly on-site on game day. The game schedule can be found here.
