Aspen Snowmass Resort | Colorado

Ikon Pass

Four Mountains. Two Incredible Towns.

Aspen Snowmass is a place where people of all nations, ages, and abilities come to revel in an attitude that is the perfect marriage of laid-back luxurious, athletic and indulgent. Four ski mountains on one lift ticket offer thrills when you need a rush and scenic groomers when you need to unwind. Off the slopes, the action continues with world-class aprés ski, dining, arts, and events.

One of the most famous winter resorts in North America, Aspen Snowmass is a world-class ski destination, located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Centered around the towns of Aspen and Snowmass Village, visitors have access to four mountains of varied terrain to explore, along with exceptional accommodation options and amenities.

Spend an hour exploring the Highland Bowl, a day at Buttermilk, a week at Aspen Mountain, or a whole season discovering Snowmass — no matter how long you stay, you will never have the same experience twice.

Aspen Snowmass is more than just four mountains of terrain. It is a destination for living well. A place where the mountains challenge and thrill you day by day, and where a vibrant cultural scene greets you at night. A place where just as much devotion is reserved for a polished groomer as a perfect line through the powder covered trees, and where people know the value of staying out late and rising early for first tracks.

Explore Hero's

Aspen Mountain, known locally as Ajax, has always felt and skied bigger than its acreage would imply. But the 2023-2024 season marks the opening of an additional 153 skiable acres of upper, northeast-facing terrain on Aspen Mountain. The area, called Hero’s, is accessed via a brand-new high-speed quad and includes chutes and glades ranging from intermediate to advanced, plus an extension of favourite expert runs such as Walsh’s, Kristi, and Hyrup’s.

The terrain—with 19 chutes (double black), four main runs (black), and three lower, gladed sections (blue) all making up the area’s two zones, Hero’s Chutes #1 and Hero’s Chutes #2—offers not only skiing and riding and incredible views, but also pays homage to the hero’s journey and the many legends who made the project possible.

Discover Hero’s this winter.

The Four Mountains

Aspen Mountain

The identities of Aspen Mountain and the city of Aspen are intertwined. Both are rooted in a silver mining past, and both are forever moving forward in the pursuit of pleasure today. For visitors, joy can come in many forms here: excellent skiing and riding on the mountain, followed by world-class dining and shopping in town.

When it comes to terrain, Aspen Mountain is unlike any other ski mountain in America, offering an abundance of options in a surprisingly compact space. A dash down the Face of Bell is a rite of passage for expert skiers the world over, while those in search of groomers can cruise down the same runs that will host the 2023 Aspen Audi FIS Ski World Cup.

When the day is done, watch the action on the mountain fade into town at Ajax Tavern, the iconic après ski spot at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola.

Snowmass

Covering 3,332 acres (1,267 hectares), Snowmass presents skiers and riders with every type of terrain they could possibly want: steeps, glades, moguls, top-to-bottom groomers, terrain parks and even playful kids’ trails through the trees. As a result, the mountain’s variety and accessibility have made it an easy choice for families and groups.

Spend your day connecting one blue cruiser to the next and enjoying the mountain’s daily “noon groom.” Seeking adventurous terrain with a backcountry feel? Scope out the double-black glades of Hanging Valley Wall and the Cirque on the mountain’s upper reaches.

Young children love how the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center mingles fun lessons outdoors with hands-on play indoors. Meanwhile, Elk Camp comes alive with four lanes of tubing, excellent après ski and dinner options and lots of family fun every Friday at Ullr Nights.

Aspen Highlands

Situated in between Aspen Mountain and Buttermilk, you will find a true original – Aspen Highlands. Rising 3,635 feet (1,108 meters) from the base area, this narrow ridge presents a dramatic reveal as you ride the chairlift up — blue and black runs dive down its flanks, while glimpses of the iconic Maroon Bells in the distance leave little doubt that you are on the one-and-only Aspen Highlands.

Once you are at the top, you’ll find the real reason why this mountain is adored by locals: the hike-in terrain of Highland Bowl, rising another 717 feet above the last lift. Over at the newly renovated Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro — where the après ski scene goes into overdrive around 2 pm — rub elbows with an eclectic mix of locals, international skiers, and the occasional celeb over pots of steaming fondue and glasses of champagne.

Buttermilk

Buttermilk represents the quieter side of Aspen Snowmass and is ranked the #1 Overall Resort by Transworld Snowboarding. Here you can enjoy excellent beginner terrain, the smooth but steep advanced runs of the Tiehack area, and the amazing scenery of nearby Pyramid Peak. Try some new tricks at the S3 Terrain Park or the Buttermilk Terrain Park, which despite its international fame (courtesy of the X Games Aspen) still has a mellow vibe to it.

At Buttermilk, lift lines are a rare sight, allowing you to enjoy as many turns as you can squeeze into a day. At the base, the new Hideout — an innovative learning center for children — invites young kids to find their way into the sport of skiing through gentle slopes and interactive play areas.
