Banff & Lake Louise

If you’d like to stay in Canada for spring skiing, then you should think about heading to Alberta. The eastern side of the Rockies tends to retain snow until later in the season and often has good conditions well into May, due to their milder climate.

Lake Louise Ski Resort and Sunshine Village are great places to ski in April — and you can enjoy some beautiful spring hiking in Banff National Park. At the end of your day’s adventures, kick back on a patio in downtown Banff and enjoy a beer or two with amazing views of the mountains. There’s no better way to welcome spring!

Zermatt & Cervinia

Another option for late-season skiing is to take a trip across the pond and explore some of the fantastic spring skiing options available in the Alps. The neighbouring resorts of Zermatt (in Switzerland) and Cervinia-Valtournenche (in Italy) are premier European ski destinations with year-round skiing available on the famous Theodul Glacier.

Both resorts share access to the glacier, which is open 365 days a year and used as a summer training area by many national ski teams. Visitors can reach this ski area via the highest cable car station in Europe at 3,883 metres, where they can dine at mountain-top restaurants and enjoy breathtaking views of the Alps.

If you want to go spring skiing in style, there is no question that Zermatt and Cervinia should be at the top of your list!

Innsbruck

Innsbruck is the capital of the Tyrolean Alps in Austria and great for skiing

The charming Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck is a mecca for skiers, offering access to nine different ski areas. If you’re looking for spring skiing, your best bet is the Stubai Glacier, Austria’s biggest glacier ski resort, located just 45 minutes from Innsbruck.

The Stubai Glacier guarantees snow coverage from October until June of each year, so you’re sure to have good snow conditions in April. While you’re in the area, check out the local tradition of firngleiten — where locals will use short, ski-like boards to ski through corn snow at the end of the season. This distinctive cultural event is sure to provide you with a unique spring skiing experience!

Arlberg

Another option for spring skiing is the Arlberg ski area, often referred to as ‘the cradle of alpine skiing’, located high in the Tyrolean Alps. This ski area is made up of a network of interconnected ski villages, including St. Anton, Lech, Stuben, and more.

Arlberg typically has a long ski season from November to May, with good snow conditions thanks to many north-facing slopes. If you’re going spring skiing and want to enjoy some après-ski in the sunshine, then this is an excellent choice. There is no better place to experience the legendary Austrian après-ski tradition than Arlberg!
