A Bike Tour to Remember in the Kootenays, B.C

August 8, 2018 This 3-day cycling tour in the West Kootenays, B.C. delivers the goods, with big mountain and lake views, quiet roads, and support. Nelson or bust!
We can’t get enough of the mountains here at Skican! While most of the time you think of us shredding up fresh powder, you might wonder how we get our legs in shape for those big mountain days. The answer is more fun in the mountains, four seasons of the year!
Think biking…along glacier-fed lakes on quiet roads, with views of snowy peaks and spectacular waterfalls along the way…that’s exactly what Sarah Nicol of Skican got to do for three incredible days earlier this summer.

Our own Sarah Nicol taking in the cycling sites.

The Silver Triangle Bike Tour

Fantastic features:

  • A guide! This is a supported ride with Kootenay Cycling Adventures and everything is taken care of
  • Food- plenty of it and it's good
  • Nature and fitness in one. Waterfalls, snowy peaks, fun Nelson, and beaches

Why I loved it (by Sarah Nicol, Skican):

John at Kootenay Cycling Adventures is letting us in on a hidden gem of a cycling tour. The West Koot Loop/Silver Triangle Tour - starting in Nelson, heading up Kootenay Lake to Kaslo, over to New Denver and down the Slocan to Lemon Creek, lastly hopping onto the Galena Rail Trail and heading back to Nelson - is a must do for any cyclist, from recreational to the most advanced.

The only thing better than the spectacular cycling is the experienced local host, pointing out the best landmarks along the way; waterfalls, beaches, natural hot springs, turn of the century riverboats, heritage buildings and setting up rest stops where you need them most with yummy local treats. Speaking of delicious food, John has hand-picked the best restaurants along the ride, from hearty breakfasts to charming lunch stops and farm fresh wholesome dinners, you’ll quickly discover that the Nelson Kootenay Rockies region is a mecca for foodies.

While I did mention this tour was great cross training for skiing, I should also mention that it’s an incredibly relaxing and super fun way to explore this beautiful part of BC. Kootenay Cycling Adventures takes care of everything; 2 nights accommodation at deluxe hotels and 1 night at a rustic lodge, all your meals for 3 full days, fully-supported sag wagon (always the option to hop in if your legs decide they’re done cycling for the day!) plus a super friendly guide.

Optional extras include high-quality bike rental, alcohol beverages, 4th-night accommodation in Nelson (highly recommended!), airport transfers (if required), and single supplement (if applicable).

Trips run from early June to mid-September. There are still a few available to choose from.
